Salary Range: $22.00 - $26.00 Hourly

The Southern California Mountains Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on connecting communities to public lands through environmental citizenship, youth development, conservation, and interpretive outdoor programs. The organization comprises 30 full-time staff, 75-100 part-time employees, and 750 volunteers, and supports seven programs including Urban Conservation Corps of the Inland Empire (UCCIE).

Introduction to the Urban Conservation Corps of the Inland Empire: The UCCIE is a certified Local Conservation Corps established in 2006 to provide employment training to underserved transition-age youth/young adults at risk of incarceration, with a focus on conservation services, recycling services, and corpsmember development on-site at a John Muir charter school.

Responsibilities

• Work hands-on with corpsmembers on conservation and recycling projects, including fence building and repair, trail building and maintenance, weed abatement, fuels reduction, recycling routes/events, e-waste collection/events, and tire collection.
• Provide supervisory oversight to ensure corpsmembers complete quality work that meets client and partner standards.
• Serve as the on-site project liaison to program managers, sponsors, clients, and partners; maintain communication throughout the project.
• Manage daily crew logistics to ensure tools, vehicles, gear, and other necessary items are available.
• Supervise in a way that builds positive attitudes toward work and toward others.
• Ensure participant safety and prevent conflicts within the crew.
• Collaborate with the UCCIE Site Director and Managers to resolve conflicts between corpsmembers and staff.
• Support corpsmembers in learning social, life, and job skills.
• Maintain and report on property, tools, equipment, and supplies; report damage or loss to the Facilities & Fleet Manager.
• Review and share weekly crew schedules with corpsmembers; provide daily feedback to UCCIE Managers on project progress and setbacks.
• Attend safety training and share learned skills with corpsmembers to minimize injuries; participate in field technical trainings to obtain necessary skills for project delivery.
• Ensure projects comply with safety regulations and complete injury documentation immediately when injuries occur.
• Ensure corpsmembers adhere to UCCIE regulations (uniforms, boots, safety wear, etc.).
• Maintain documentation for daily accomplishments, vehicle mileage, incident reports, and other forms as needed.
• Collaborate with UCCIE Managers on purchasing equipment and supplies; assist in recruiting young people to join the Corps.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School Diploma.
• At least two years of experience in a conservation corps, public land management, or related field managing similar participants.
• Excellent organizational, leadership, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working with diverse young adults (18-26 years) and those involved with the justice system.
• Familiarity with community-based agencies (non-profits), services, and resources; attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Google Docs/Sheets is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record per policy; ability to obtain Class B driver’s license within 90 days of employment.

Compensation and Benefits

• Full-time schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with a 30-minute lunch; flexibility for weekends if needed.
• Hourly pay rate based on qualifications and experience: $20-$24/hour.

• Paid time off: 10 vacation days per year; 8 days of sick leave per year (annual accrual); 13 paid holidays annually.
