Job summary

Beth El Congregation of Baltimore seeks an experienced Director of Development to guide fundraising efforts and ensure financial sustainability of its mission. The role focuses on cultivating donor relationships, executing strategic campaigns, and leading the Development Committee to support Beth El’s programs and community vision in the 21st century.

Collaborate with staff and volunteers, manage campaigns from annual appeal to Foundations Campaign, and maintain robust donor data to drive growth

Qualifications

• 5+ years of success in annual giving with strong donor management skills.
• Creative and proactive team player who takes initiative.
• Mature interpersonal skills for staff, congregants, and partners.
• Experience with volunteer management and event planning.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to tailor messages to audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of fundraising campaigns including annual appeal, events, and special initiatives.
• Oversee donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; build donor relationships.
• Serve as lead for the Development Committee; provide updates to the Board and leadership team.
• Collaborate with Soul Center on fundraising efforts to maximize community outcomes.
• Develop and implement public phase of Foundations Campaign toward $10M goal.
• Build and maintain relationships with local foundation funders; direct granting processes.
• Maintain and optimize donor database and information systems.
• Represent Beth El Congregation at organizational and community events.

Beth El seeks an experienced Director of Development to join the congregation’s leadership team to provide guidance and direction to all aspects of the congregation’s fundraising efforts. This leader will cultivate deep donor relationships, execute strategic campaigns, and ensure financial sustainability of Beth El’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead planning and execution of fundraising campaigns including the annual appeal, event-based fundraising efforts, special initiatives
• Oversee and implement donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies, including building strong relationships with donors and prospective donors and serving as relationship manager
• Serve as lead professional for the Development Committee, providing regular updates on fundraising activities to the Board and leadership team
• Work closely with Soul Center colleagues on fundraising efforts, maximizing outcomes for the community
• Develop and implement public phase of Foundations Campaign to achieve $10 million goal
• Build and maintain positive relationships with local foundation funders and prospective funders; Direct granting process and reporting
• Maintain and optimize donor database and information systems
• Represent Beth El Congregation at organizational and community-wide events

• 5+ years of success in annual giving with strong donor management skills

• Mature interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with staff, congregants, and partners
• Experienced with volunteer management and event planning
• Excellent verbal and written communicator able to tailor messages to diverse audiences
• Experienced with donor management systems, reporting, and relationship tracking
• Skilled in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom and Google Office
• Deep understanding of Jewish values, traditions, Israel, and congregational life
• Ability and willingness to work outside of regular business hours
