Job summary

Larrabee Air Conditioning, Inc. is seeking an HVAC Superintendent to support the General Superintendent in overseeing daily field operations on HVAC construction projects.

You will supervise crews, coordinate schedules, ensure safety, and maintain project timelines while working with project managers, subcontractors, and clients. The role requires strong leadership, deep HVAC knowledge, and the ability to ensure installations meet code and quality standards across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; a degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred but not required.
• HVAC certification, journeyman license, or equivalent technical training strongly preferred.
• OSHA 30 Certification required.
• Rigging and Forklift Certification required.

Job description

The HVAC Superintendent is responsible for assisting the General Superintendent in overseeing the daily operations and field activities of HVAC construction projects. This role involves managing the workforce, ensuring quality control, and maintaining project timelines. The Superintendent ensures that installations are completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications, while working closely with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. 1. Field Supervision & Leadership:
   • Direct and supervise HVAC field crews, foremen, and subcontractors.
   • Coordinate and schedule daily work activities on multiple job sites, ensuring all teams are aligned with the project plan.
   • Monitor field performance and productivity, providing guidance to ensure optimal results.
2. 2. Project Scheduling & Coordination:
   • Work with project managers and planners to establish and maintain project schedules, ensuring that milestones and deadlines are met.
   • Anticipate and resolve potential delays or disruptions in the construction schedule.
   • Ensure that manpower, materials, and equipment are available to meet project requirements.
3. 3. Quality Control:
   • Ensure all HVAC installations are completed to the highest standards of quality and meet project specifications.
   • Conduct regular site inspections to verify that work is being performed correctly and efficiently.
   • Ensure compliance with building codes, HVAC industry standards, and company quality control policies.
4. 4. Safety Management:
   • Implement and enforce company safety protocols and OSHA regulations to ensure a safe work environment for all personnel.
   • Conduct regular safety meetings and job site inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
   • Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability within the team.
5. 5. Material & Equipment Management:
   • Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment to job sites.
   • Oversee proper handling, storage, and usage of HVAC materials and tools.
   • Ensure that all equipment is well-maintained and available for use as needed.
   • Serve as the primary liaison between the field crew, project managers, engineers, and clients.
   • Communicate progress, challenges, and updates to project managers and upper management.
   • Address any client concerns or issues that may arise on the job site.
6. 7. Problem-Solving & Conflict Resolution:
   • Identify and resolve issues related to scheduling, labor, or material shortages in a timely and effective manner.
   • Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting assistance to field teams.
   • Manage conflicts between field teams and other stakeholders, ensuring smooth project operations.
7. 8. Documentation & Reporting:
   • Maintain accurate records of job site activities, including daily reports, manpower logs, and safety reports in Procore.
   • Ensure proper documentation of changes to the scope of work, inspections, and project milestones.
   • Report progress to upper management and provide recommendations for improving field operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. 1. Educational Requirements:
   • High school diploma or GED required. A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
   • HVAC certification, journeyman license, or other related technical training is strongly preferred.
   • OSHA 30 Certification Required
   • Rigging and Forklift Certification Required
2. 2. Experience:
   • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in HVAC construction, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
   • Extensive experience in managing HVAC installations on commercial, industrial, and/or large residential projects.
   • Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple job sites simultaneously.
3. 3. Skills:
   • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate crews and foster collaboration.
   • In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, installation techniques, and best practices.
   • Excellent understanding of blueprints, schematics, and construction documents.
   • Solid understanding of OSHA regulations and safety standards related to HVAC construction.
   • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
   • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with teams, management, and clients.
4. 4. Other Requirements:
   • Ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
   • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
   • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and on construction sites.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS (PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED)

• Proficiency in project management or scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Vista, Procore, or equivalent.
• Experience with energy-efficient and sustainable HVAC systems.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus for working with diverse crews.
