Job summary

Shawmut Design and Construction is seeking a dedicated Superintendent to join our Washington, DC team. The role focuses on leading daily field operations, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence for projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years as a Project Superintendent with GC/CM experience, strong leadership, and excellent communication skills. Expect autonomy in a collaborative, employee-owned culture with opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead all daily field operations to ensure site safety, construction progress, quality, and a clean site.
• Develop understanding of project strategy including financial goals, scheduling, logistics, milestones, and inspections.
• Maintain an updated project schedule reflecting changes and meeting cost and time requirements.
• Demonstrate and maintain open dialogue with the project team regarding changes, subcontractor relations, and project direction.
• Promote positive relationships with subcontractors and vendors and instill this philosophy in the project team.

Responsibilities

We are currently hiring a Superintendent with a passion for building to join our Shawmut team. Ideally, this person is local to Washington DC for upcoming project work, and open to travel to future projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.

• Lead all daily field operations to ensure proper site safety, construction, progress, quality control, and a clean site.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of project strategy and commitments, including financial goals, scheduling, logistics, phasing, milestones, and inspections.
• Maintain an updated and accurate project schedule that reflects the changes in project status and that meets the cost and time requirements of the project.
• Demonstrate and maintain effective and open dialogue with the project team regarding changes in work, job conditions, subcontractor relations, and any deviation in the direction of the project.
• Always promotes positive relationships by dealing expertly and fairly with all subcontractors and vendors while instilling this philosophy in the project team.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of experience as a Project Superintendent with a reputable General Contractor or Construction Manager in both a union and non-union environment at a general contractor.
• Experience in managing, training, and developing people.
• Project experience: Retail
• Ability to lead 1-3 smaller projects at a time
• Strong communication skills and a desire to grow with a growing organization
