The City of Westfield is seeking a Special Heavy Motor Equipment Operator for the Department of Public Works. You will operate and maintain heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, rollers, and loaders in daily operations, with attention to safety and logs.

SPECIAL HEAVY MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR – DPW

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operating specialized heavy motor equipment on an assigned basis. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of heavy specialized and frequently complex construction and maintenance equipment requiring considerable manipulative skill.
SUPERVISION:
Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with all Massachusetts and Department of Transportation rules and regulations. Working supervision may be experienced over assigned helpers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Valid CDL class A license, 2A, 1C hoisting license or as required by DOT regulation for applicable equipment or the ability to obtain necessary licenses within six months of hire. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Two years’ experience in related paid full-time work.

Physical Skills
A significant portion of the day is spent standing and bending. Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling of objects weighing up to approximately 50 lbs. 95% of work performed is outside in varying degrees of temperature.
Visual Skills
Visual demands require routinely reading documents and operate motor vehicles and other equipment.
