Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) seeks a Director for Sumud: for justice in Palestine and Israel to guide engagement, advocacy, and accompaniment across ELCA networks. Based in Chicago with hybrid work, the position involves domestic and international travel, and collaboration with ELCA colleagues to advance Sumud goals within the church and beyond.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant experience in theology, communications, political science, social justice, or another relevant field.
• Extensive knowledge of justice issues in Palestine and Israel, including Palestinian Christian context.
• Capability to build and sustain grassroots networks for engagement and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Direct the Sumud initiative; create and implement a strategic plan with mission, vision, values and yearly events.
• Lead engagement across ELCA expressions to connect constituencies to Sumud’s holistic work.
• Oversee Sumud collaboration with MENA Desk and related ELCA offices and partners.
• Support the MENA desk in implementing strategy and coordinating advocacy.
• Represent Sumud at ELCA gatherings and partner events.
• Develop resources on Holy Land theology, education, and accompaniment for ELCA audiences.
