Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) seeks a Disaster Emotional and Spiritual Care (DESC) Program Manager for a three-year Lilly Endowment-funded initiative. The role oversees DESC team development, training delivery, and cross-synod coordination across the ELCA Disaster Response network.

The position is full-time, term contract (Fall 2026–Mar 31, 2029) based in Chicago, with regular in-office presence and eligibility requirements for U.S. work authorization.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of related experience in disaster response, emotional/spiritual care, pastoral care, or related field.
• Experience designing or facilitating training programs, especially adult learning or trauma-informed approaches.
• Experience in event planning and onsite management is highly desirable.
• Ability to manage projects and work collaboratively in a multi-tiered environment.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to timeliness, organization, and supporting diverse stakeholders.

Responsabilités

• Oversee implementation of a three-year Lilly Endowment-funded grant initiative for LDR DESC.
• Serve as primary liaison and program lead for DESC programming across staff, synods, congregations, partners, trainers, and volunteers.
• Coordinate DESC training across ELCA’s domestic footprint, expanding trauma-informed curricula and learning formats.
• Lead design and support of synod-based DESC teams, with onboarding and sustainability protocols.
• Develop partnerships with synod leaders, disaster coordinators, and lay leaders; facilitate convenings.
• Evaluate and report on DESC team formation, training outcomes, and activations.
• Other duties as assigned.
