Job summary

UPMC’s Student Nurse Internship (SNI) program offers nursing students a practical, paid 10-week summer opportunity to work side-by-side with a preceptor. You will be placed at a UPMC hospital and shadow additional nursing areas while participating in educational sessions.

Responsibilities include observing daily nursing activities, gaining hands-on experience, and networking with nursing leadership. The program guides your growth toward future graduate nursing opportunities.

Qualifications

• Enrollment as a nursing student with anticipated August 2027 graduation.
• Attach Resume and Nursing Transcripts at time of application.
• Eligible to participate in a 10-week paid Summer 2027 internship.
• Ability to work up to 40 hours/week depending on preceptor schedule.
• Opportunity to apply to system-wide Graduate Nurse opportunities after the program.

• Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue learning.

About the Program

UPMC’s Student Nurse Internship (SNI) program allows you to put your education into practice by working side-by-side with a preceptor.This is a temporary 10-week paid opportunity during the Summer of 2027.

During the internship you will have the opportunity to:

• Work one-on-one with a trained preceptor to see a day in the life of a nurse at UPMC

• Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue your learning journey

• Build your confidence as a future nurse

• Work at one hospital for the summer (*Assignment shared at time of offer)

• Shadow at least one additional area of nursing at your hospital placement

• Work up to 40 hours/week (*SNIs follow their preceptor’s schedule; we understand obligations may not permit you to work a full-time schedule, we can accommodate!)

• Apply to system-wide Graduate Nurse opportunities at UPMC before you even leave the summer program

• Network with UPMC Nursing Leadership and receive mentorship

• Give back to the community

• Make an impact on patient care and Life Changing Medicine
