Job summary

The Ponderosa Lodge ropes assistant at Mount Hermon Associationorporated serves campers and staff in adventure activities and models Christian discipleship. You will help with safety, equipment upkeep, and program delivery in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

As a ministerial position, it involves leading and participating in ministry activities, joining prayer and Bible-centered sessions, and collaborating with a leadership team to create a positive camp experience for youth and staff.

Qualifications

• Must be CPR/First Aid certified.
• Current valid driver’s license and a clean driving record required.
• Prior experience in team sports and ropes course activities beneficial.
• Experience in camping ministry is preferred.
• Ability to articulate the gospel and demonstrate faith in Christ.

Responsibilities

• Care for and maintain all adventure equipment, including inspections.
• Maintain all adventure areas.
• Ensure the safety of all campers and staff in adventure activities.
• Work with rotating counselors to run cabin activities smoothly.
• Evaluate program and equipment inventory at the end of the summer.
• Other duties as assigned by the PL Ropes Lead.

The Ponderosa Lodge(“PL”) Ropes Assistant ensures the safety and well-being of campers and staff using the adventure activities at PL, (including, but not limited to, climbing tower and ropes course activities,) and is responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship, providing for campers with an experience that aligns with the MHA Youth vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Ponderosa Lodge(“PL”) Ropes Assistant is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming MHA’s Christian mission, vision, beliefs, culture code and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs and retreats. All staff are expected to join gatherings which include prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching.

Key Job Accountabilities:

Work Experience:

• Prior experience in team sports and ropes course activities.
• Prior experience in camping ministry is beneficial and preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
• Ability to demonstrate a personal, committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
• Possess proven leadership experience and skills along with a strong background in ministry and leadership of high school/junior high campers and college staff.
• Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires seeing, hearing, talking, sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, and hiking.

Additional Requirements/Skills:

• Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirements for onsite community living.
