The PRANA Lab at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is seeking a hands-on Summer Researcher for a 10-week term to advance electrochemical gas sensing technology. You will design, fabricate, and test microfluidic sensing cells, integrate porous transducer architectures, and apply machine learning to VOC detection.

You will work with ITO and carbon electrodes, perform impedance spectroscopy, and contribute to the ESSENCE-Air platform, collaborating with graduate and undergraduate

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. required in a relevant field such as Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Hands-on experience with electrochemical sensing Techniques such as impedance spectroscopy, CV, and amperometry.
  • Ability to design and fabricate microfluidic devices and work independently within project timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, and characterize electrochemical microfluidic gas sensing cells with ionic liquid electrolytes.
  • Develop and optimize electrode materials (ITO, carbon-based) to enhance sensor performance.
  • Implement ML models for multi-analyte classification and concentration prediction.
  • Integrate sensor data with embedded computing platforms for portable operation.
  • Document procedures, results, and contribute to technical reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate with graduate/undergraduate students in the PRANA Lab.
