Job description

This is a summer, entry-level position on night shift. The ideal candidate will work in various areas of the plant with hours ranging from 5:15 pm to 6:00 pm until approximately 2:30 am to 3:30 am. Weekend work is required.

Summary

Performs a variety of duties throughout the plant, primarily in Inside Production. Rotates among duties as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

1. Machine pack: Stands by moving conveyor and presses product into the machine-packed jar, lifts product from conveyor to fill jars, and inspects for foreign objects, broken pickles, and defective glass.
2. Hand pack: Packs product at the table, weighs jars if required, inspects for defects, and meets production rates.
3. Pouch line: Inspects pouches for leaks, discards bad pouches, and moves good pouches to pasteurizer, ensuring correct orientation and spacing.
4. Other Duties: Inspects product on conveyor feeding packing machine.
5. Uncasing: Places glass containers on unscramble table, moves pallets when empty.
6. Glass inspecting: Visually inspects jars and removes defective or broken ones.
7. Check weighing: Checks jars for weight and appearance, separates acceptable jars, and returns unacceptable ones for correction.
8. Other: Follows safety rules and company policies.
9. Rework (occasional, usually day shift): Adjusts bottled product, labels jars, and completes other tasks as instructed.
10. Bulk containers (occasional, usually day shift): Uncases containers, installs handles, packs products, and labels.

All employees participate in training, meetings, and projects as appropriate. Receives instructions and performs other duties as directed.

Work Environment

Works indoors with seasonal temperature variations, intermittent wetness, fumes, machinery noise, contact with grease, and requires protective gear.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: No special education required; good eye/hand coordination needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Physical Demands:

• Reaching, standing, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, repetitive motions, light work (up to 10 lbs occasionally).
• Visual acuity required for inspection and observation tasks.
