Job summary

Principal Asset Management, a subsidiary of Principal Financial group, invites interns to join the Lower Middle Market Direct Lending platform for Summer 2027. You will gain hands-on experience on live transactions (LBOs, refinancings) across sectors, aiding in due diligence, underwriting, execution, and portfolio monitoring.

You will work with Senior Underwriters, build financial models, assess deal terms, and contribute to investment materials while exploring real-world private debt investing

Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
Graduating Spring or Fall 2028.
GPA of 3.5+ or higher.
Ability to build three-statement and LBO models.

Responsibilities

Evaluate new LBO transactions and opportunities; attend management presentations and review terms.
Build detailed financial models and conduct downside analyses.
Assist in preparing investment committee materials.
Collaborate with Senior Underwriters on transactions to develop investing skills.
Monitor portfolio performance and credit surveillance and covenant compliance.
Participate in due diligence including business and quantitative analysis.
