Job summary

The ACLU seeks a Summer Legal Intern for the LGBTQ & HIV Project in the National office. This role may be remote or hybrid based in New York, NY. You must be a law student based in the U.S. for the entire internship.

Interns assist attorneys on litigation, policy advocacy, and public education efforts, gaining exposure to a range of issues while under supervision. The program emphasizes civil rights advocacy and professional development.

Qualifications

• Current law student must be based in the U.S. for the entire internship duration.
• Strong research and writing abilities demonstrated in legal contexts.
• Proficient in MS Office; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal and factual research and draft research memos for current and prospective litigation.
• Potentially draft litigation documents such as discovery requests, affidavits and motions.
• Research and draft materials for legislative advocacy and/or public education.
