Base pay range

$14.00/hr - $14.00/hr

Overview

Under the direction of the Child Nutrition Director, the Kitchen Assistant will stock, prepare, and serve all food and beverage items and maintain quality food according to state regulations. Maintain a clean kitchen and foster good relationships with teachers, assistants, and other YMCA staff. Provide a quality experience to children and parents, aligned with YMCA core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Responsibilities

1. Stock, prepare, and serve all food and beverage items for YMCA Food Programs.
2. Maintain a clean and safe kitchen and storage environment.
3. Ensure compliance with standards set by the State of Kansas, OSHA, USDA, and CACFP Regulations.
4. Follow all schedules, menus, and operational procedures.
5. Provide exceptional customer service by greeting participants, maintaining cleanliness, and demonstrating professionalism.
6. Respond to challenges with timely solutions.
7. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience assisting with and preparing food for groups.
• Willingness to take classes related to food preparation and storage.
• Positive rapport with children, staff, and guests.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and meeting deadlines.
• Good judgment and discretion.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license and reliable transportation (preferred but not required).
• Compliance with YMCA and Kansas Department of Health safety requirements.
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• CPR & First Aid certification within 30 days of hire (training available).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
• Sit, stand, and bend as needed.
• Respond quickly to emergencies.
• Work in various temperature environments.
