PACIV, a leader in automation, is offering a paid Summer Internship in Automation & Controls Engineering in Indianapolis, IN. You will work alongside experienced engineers on real projects, gaining hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, AutoCAD Electrical, and data integration.

Open to rising sophomores or juniors pursuing Electrical or Mechatronics, located in the Indianapolis area and able to work onsite Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm. Strong teamwork, communication, and analytical skills are valued.

Qualifications

  • Rising Sophomore or Junior pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Located in the Indianapolis area and available for on-site work.
  • Interest in automation, controls, PLCs, and industrial technology.
  • Eagerness to gain hands-on experience and apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with engineers, technicians, and vendors.
  • Good written communication skills with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting on-site activities such as system checks, startup assistance, and basic troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, and supporting equipment.
  • Assisting in commissioning and qualification (C&Q) tasks under supervision, including executing basic test procedures and documenting results.
  • Use AutoCAD Electrical to design control panels for production and support accurate fabrication by the shop team
  • Participating in vendor collaboration activities by gathering information, documenting issues, and tracking updates.
  • Preparing and organizing documentation for validation, compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Contributing to Industry 4.0 and Industrial IoT initiatives through hands-on learning and guided project tasks.
  • Supporting engineering teams with research, data collection, and process improvement activities.

Automation & Controls Engineering Internship
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience working alongside experienced Automation & Controls Engineers in industrial automation while working on real projects that impact our clients' operations. As part of our onsite Indianapolis team, you will develop practical skills in PLC systems, data integration, commissioning support, and automation engineering while learning directly from experienced professionals.
