Job summary

RGA is a Fortune 200 company offering a Summer Underwriting Internship where you will gain hands-on experience in risk assessment for life and health insurance products.

You will assist in medical research, underwriting studies, and learn the basics of underwriting using various systems while collaborating with a global team. Strong analytical and communication skills are valued; US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA; additional requirements may apply.
  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work ongoing in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in medical research as part of Underwriting Manual review.
  • Assist in underwriting research to include ongoing Underwriting Specialty reviews and updates.
  • Learn the basics of underwriting and how to use various systems and applications.
  • Work in team settings with other RGA interns and employees.
  • Attend lunch and learns to dive deeper into medical and insurance topics.
  • Participate in underwriting continuing medical education.
  • Review small new business underwriting cases.
  • Build business and professional skills that will prepare you for underwriting positions.
  • Participate in special projects and assume additional responsibilities as necessary from time to time for the improvement of the sales and underwriting performance of the region/company.

As an RGA Underwriting Summer Intern, you will get the opportunity to exercise critical thinking skills and get hands-on experience at a top global reinsurance company. Underwriters utilize data to assess mortality risk for insurance policies. By assessing personal background information and applying risk assessment strategies, underwriters play an integral role in the insurance industry.

If you are a student who seeks to learn more about risk management, reinsurance, medical, and insurance topics, all while collaborating at a Fortune 250 company, consider Underwriting at RGA. Our expectation is that all interns participate in a core training program where we will provide limited review of new business cases and project assignments. Special projects/research will be assigned among the interns and rotated as much as possible so they get a variety of experience. We will emphasize risk management and analysis, specifically good risks vs. bad risks and how each impact the business. The intern will exercise strong analytical and research skills. Projects assigned will be both group and individual and will be based on department need at the time of hire date.
