Job summary

Clarkson Construction Company is seeking a Summer Intern to support the safety team on heavy civil projects in the Kansas City area. You will gain exposure to safety practices, regulatory compliance, and field operations while learning how safety is integrated into project execution.

You will assist with OSHA compliance, site inspections, and safety trainings, collaborating with project managers, supervisors, and crews to promote a culture of safety on site.

Job Summary

As a Summer Intern, you will support the safety team in promoting and maintaining a safe work environment on heavy civil construction projects. This role is designed to provide exposure to construction safety practices, regulatory compliance, and day-to-day field operations. The intern will work closely with project teams and safety professionals to learn how safety is integrated into every stage of project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
• Participate in site walks, inspections, and safety audits to identify and report potential hazards.
• Support the documentation of safety observations, incidents, and corrective actions.
• Help prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and training sessions.
• Assist in reviewing and updating site-specific safety plans.
• Learn and practice proper incident reporting and investigation processes.
• Observe and support coordination of drug testing and safety certifications.
• Gain exposure to collaborating with project managers, supervisors, and crews on safety-related matters.
• Promote a culture of safety through participation in team meetings and field activities.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong interest in safety and heavy civil construction.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Eagerness to learn and work in a hands-on, outdoor environment.
• Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work collaboratively in a team setting.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office preferred).
• Reliable transportation to and from project sites.
