Job summary

The Department of Game Fish and Parks is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator Intern for The Outdoor Campus‑Sioux Falls. This summer session role supports a volunteer group of nearly 100 people with hands‑on involvement in outdoor programs and behind‑the‑scenes operations.

Responsibilities include recruiting volunteers, coordinating orientations, engaging and retaining volunteers, recognizing volunteers, and assisting with outreach events.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part‑time/full‑time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.

Responsibilities

• recruiting and onboarding new volunteers
• assisting with volunteer orientations and training
• helping engage and retain current volunteers
• supporting volunteer recognition and appreciation efforts
• assisting with volunteer recruitment and outreach events
• helping coordinate volunteer projects and activities throughout the Outdoor Campus
• assist education staff with outdoor skills programming (fishing, camping, hunting, and other hands‑on activities)
