Job summary

Hypertherm Associates invites a Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern for Summer 2027, based in Hanover NH and New Brighton MN. You will lead process-improvement efforts, work on CNC and packaging lines, and design tooling for new product introductions.

You are an engineering student in your junior year with a passion for problem solving, teamwork, and applying Lean/Six Sigma to improve quality and reduce costs. This internship emphasizes hands-on learning and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an engineering-focused college degree program (industrial/mechanical engineering preferred).
• Junior year (you have completed a minimum of 2 years) and in good standing.
• Enthusiastic about learning with the ability to work collaboratively in a team, as well as independently on selected projects.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a passion for getting to the root cause of issues.
• Proactive and enthusiastic about implementing new technology and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead process improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma practices
• Optimize manufacturing processes to enhance quality, reduce costs, improve safety, and increase earnings
• Work with a variety of machinery and processes, including multi-axis CNC machines, assembly equipment, laser marking, and packaging equipment
• Design tooling, fixtures, and workstations essential for new product introduction to production cells

Manufacturing Process Engineer - Summer Internship - May- August 2027

Join us for the Summer of 2027 as a Manufacturing Process Engineer Intern at Hypertherm Associates! Key Responsibilities:

• Lead process improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma practices

Preferred Experience that differentiates you:

• Internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in lean manufacturing, statistical analysis (Minitab), geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), SolidWorks, value stream mapping (VSM), design for manufacturability (DFM), process failure mode effects analysis (pFMEA), and structured problem solving
