Allegion Canada Inc. invites a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to contribute to assembly and machining processes in Greenfield, Indiana. You will support new product launches, apply problem-solving tools, and help improve existing manufacturing workflows on site.

The role offers hands-on exposure to lean manufacturing, process documentation, data analysis, and collaboration with Value Stream leaders. You will gain practical skills in NPI and continuous improvement in a global security company.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, AI, Integrated Business and Engineering or Industrial Engineering).
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative (e.g., club officer, captain, project lead).
  • Strong interest in manufacturing and continuous improvement.
  • Basic familiarity with lean concepts (5S, standard work, value stream mapping).
  • Solid analytical skills and comfort with data.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Effective listening, time management and creative problem solving.
  • Basic CAD familiarity (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Observe production processes with associates and supervisors to identify bottlenecks and support daily targets.
  • Assist Value Stream leaders on tasks like data collection, layout sketches and standard work documentation.
  • Participate in Kaizen events, 5S and lean activities to apply concepts learned in coursework.
  • Collect and analyze production/equipment data to support OEE tracking and improvements.
  • Develop/update process work instructions, routings, and shop floor documents.
  • Provide input to CNC programming or machining discussions as appropriate.
  • Promote safety and company value standards on the shop floor.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to manufacturing ops and NPI processes.
  • Apply lean tools and data-driven problem solving.
  • Prepare basic project summaries and documentation.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern – Greenfield, Indiana

As an Allegion Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will contribute meaningful work and make a direct impact to the Assembly and Machining Processes in the SAT business unit. You will gain valuable experience in tooling, equipment and process design as you support new product launches, apply problem solving tools and make improvements in our existing manufacturing processes. What You Will Do:
  • Partner with manufacturing associates and supervisors to observe production processes, identify bottlenecks, and support efforts to meet daily production targets.
  • Assist Value Stream leaders on project tasks that advance the future‑state vision (data collection, layout sketches, standard work documentation, meeting follow‑up).
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities (Kaizen events, 5S, quick wins) and apply basic lean concepts learned in coursework.
  • Help collect and analyze production and equipment data to support OEE tracking and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in developing and updating process work instructions, routings, and shop floor documentation.
  • Observe and, where appropriate, provide input to CNC programming or machining process discussions.
  • Model and promote company safety and value standards while working on the shop floor.
  • Gain hands‑on exposure to manufacturing operations and NPI processes.
  • Practical application of lean tools and data‑driven problem solving.
  • Experience preparing process documentation and basic project summaries.
  • A final intern project or presentation summarizing an implemented improvement or analysis with measured outcomes.
What You Need to Succeed:
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline; Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Artificial Intelligence, Integrated Business and Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative e.g. school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, leadership on school or work projects, etc.
  • Strong interest in manufacturing and continuous improvement.
  • Basic familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts (5s, standard work, value stream mapping).
  • Solid analytical skills and comfort with data.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Effective listening, time management and creative problem‑solving techniques.
  • Basic CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) or familiarity with manufacturing processes (cutting, machining, fabrication).
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Programs (Excel Macros, MS List, Database apps).
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and Python (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of CAD software applications (SolidWorks, Creo, ACAD are preferred apps).
  • A desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects that will impact Allegion’s business and customers.
