Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company is seeking a Summer Intern in Instrumentation & Control System Engineering to help design I&C systems aligned with functional, design, and regulatory requirements. The internship is paid, full-time, and hybrid, set for May through August 2027 at the Cranberry facility near Pittsburgh.

You will collaborate with internal teams, develop test plans, and support hardware/software design guidance for I&C projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a focus in CS.
• Sophomore year completed.
• Familiar with LabVIEW, C++, Java, Python and embedded software.
• Experience with Digital Circuit Design.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal departments to ensure integration of the I&C system.
• Create functional logic diagrams for system design.
• Support customer offer development for I&C system projects.
• Support Equipment Qualification (EMC, Environmental, Seismic) of I&C platform.
• Provide guidance to hardware design engineers on hardware development.
• Provide guidance to software design engineers on software development.
• Develop test plan and procedure documentation; implement testing per project needs.
• Review system and FPGA documentation during engineering reviews.
• Support board-level design, functional testing and integration testing.
• Assist with application development based on system specifications.

About the role

As an Instrumentation & Control System intern, you will help develop a system design for I&C systems based on functional requirements, design requirements and regulatory requirements.

You will report to the Advanced Reactors I&C Manager and be located at our Cranberry facility. This is a paid full-time hybrid position for the summer, May - August 2027.

Key Responsibilities

• (Collaborate with internal departments and partners to ensure integration of the I&C system
• Create functional logic diagrams
• Support customer offer development for I&C system projects
• Support Equipment Qualification (EMC, Environmental, Seismic) of an internally developed I&C platform
• Provide guidance to hardware design engineers to develop the hardware design of the I&C system
• Provide guidance to software design engineers to develop the software of the I&C system
• Develop test plan and procedure documentation; implement testing based on project needs
• Help engineer review of system and FPGA documentation
• Support board-level design, functional testing, and integration testing
• Help with application development based on system functional and design specifications

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (with a focus/minor in computer science)
• Completed Sophomore year of college
• Knowledge of LabVIEW, C++, Java, Python and embedded software
• Experience with Digital Circuit Design

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The hourly rate for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $25.40 to $29.00 per hour.
