Allegion is offering a Summer Intern – Hardware Engineer (Advanced Development) role at Hague Road Technical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. The intern will support embedded hardware development for electronic access control and security products within a global organization of 12,000+ employees across 30 brands.

You will define requirements, design architecture, capture schematics, layout PCBs, test, and integrate into a modular system while learning about electronic locking systems and access

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative in school clubs, sports teams or projects.
• At least one class in basic circuit theory or design; mid-level circuit design preferred.
• Familiarity with Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD tool is a plus.
• Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving skills.
• Desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects impacting Allegion's business.

Responsibilities

• Utilize engineering tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, and design analysis.
• Gain experience in embedded hardware design and testing techniques.
• Deepen understanding of RF design and antenna considerations.
• Work with a team to produce well-rounded solutions.
• Participate in daily and regular team meetings, including project teams and hardware competency.
• Deepen understanding in basic electronics and the use of electrical tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyzers).
• Obtain experience to build a foundation for growth and future opportunities with Allegion.

Summer Intern – Hardware Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of embedded hardware solutions for electronic access control and security products. As a Summer Intern – Hardware Engineer, you will work as part of a highly engaged small team within a global organization of more than 12,000 employees representing over 30 brands, including Schlage, Von Duprin, and LCN. You will gain valuable experience in defining and scoping requirements for hardware, designing and documenting architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, testing, and integration into a larger modular system. Additional opportunities include learning electronic locking systems, access control solutions, and participating in peer reviews on design and testing. The Advanced Development team focuses on innovative products that enable seamless access while helping keep people safe and secure where they work, live, and thrive. This role provides meaningful project work supporting the Advanced Development team, learning opportunities, professional development, and the opportunity to build strong relationships with peers and leaders across the organization.

What You Will Do:

• Utilize tools engineering tools for schematic capture, PCB layout, simulation, and design analysis
• Gain experience in embedded hardware design and testing techniques
• Deepen your understanding of RF design and antenna considerations

• Participate in daily and other regular team meetings, including project teams and hardware competency
• Deepen your understanding in basic electronics and the use of electrical tools, such as a digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, and digital logic analyzers
• Obtain the experience to create a foundation for growth and future opportunities with Allegion

What You Need to Succeed:

• Pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, e.g., Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering Technology, and Electrical Engineering Technology
• Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative, e.g. school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, leadership on school or work projects, etc.
• At least one class in basic circuit theory or design - preference is mid-level proficiency in circuit design
• Familiarity with Altium Designer or equivalent ECAD design tool is a plus
• Effective listening, time management and creative problem-solving techniques
• A desire to learn, grow and develop by working on projects that will impact Allegion's business and customers
