Hawaiian Electric Summer Internship Program offers students real-life experience on professional projects. Interns are coached and mentored by employees committed to helping them develop technical skills and explore future opportunities.

The program is project-based with a dedicated mentor. Interns research and execute objective projects, participate in cross-functional activities, and present deliverables in an open forum at session end.

Qualifications

• Must be a current, active student at a post-secondary school (college or community college).
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Must be attending school Fall 2027.
• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Must be studying in one of the following fields: Fire Science, Business, Marketing, Finance, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Emergency Management or other related field.
• Students who have taken courses in the following areas are preferred: Fire behavior and fire ecology, wildfire prevention and mitigation, electrical power systems, utility operations, forensic investigation, risk management and hazard mitigation or meteorology and weather impacts on fire risk.
• For Summer 2027, we will accept applications from students whose expected graduation date is December 2027 or later.

Responsibilities

• Support program communications, reporting, and business analytics initiatives through the development of promotional videos, newsletters, dashboards, and data-driven reports.
• Responsibilities include creating engaging communication materials, building and maintaining dashboards to monitor key performance indicators, conducting data analysis to identify trends and insights, and performing budget analysis to support financial planning and decision-making.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, present findings, and develop reporting tools that enhance program visibility, operational efficiency, and strategic planning.
