Job summary

General Motors is seeking an eager intern to support the Chevrolet IndyCar Program. You will turn race data into analysis, work with the Race Strategy & Analytics team, test tools, and communicate findings to improve race-weekend execution.

The role involves collecting and validating telemetry, timing, and track data, plus back-testing and basic simulations of race strategies. Hybrid work with on-site Charlotte area involvement is expected.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science or Statistics.
• Must be graduating between December 2027 and May 2029.
• Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, cleaning, organizing, and validating IndyCar race, telemetry, timing, scoring, fuel, tire, and track data.
• Support back-testing, scenario analysis, and basic simulation of race-strategy recommendations.
• Help evaluate model inputs and outputs related to fuel usage, tire performance, cautions, pit cycles, track position, and remaining-race conditions.
• Maintain track configuration data, timing lines, pit segments, logical segments, and related documentation.
• Create clear charts, summaries, dashboards, and technical documentation for engineering and competition stakeholders.
• Support software and data-engineering tasks such as testing workflows, checking APIs or data pipelines, documenting defects, and verifying fixes.
• Participate in race-replay reviews and help compare model recommendations with actual race outcomes.
• Learn and apply disciplined practices for version control, testing, data quality, and communicating analytical assumptions.
