Job summary

Green Chimneys Summer Inclusion Counselor for Hillside and Clearpool Camps provides social and emotional support for a camper with special needs throughout the day. The role requires a very structured, nurturing approach to help with transitions and participation in camp activities from hiking to arts and crafts.

Responsibilities include assisting with dressing for swimming, transitions between activities, and fostering social interaction among campers, Monday through Friday during the summer

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma; higher degrees preferred.
• Experience with children with special needs, autism a plus.
• Ability to provide consistent social and emotional support.

Summer Inclusion Counselor (Hillside/Clearpool Camp)

TheInclusion Counselorwill be responsible for offeringsocial and emotional support for one specific child with special needsthroughout the day and camp season Monday through Friday. The Support Counselorwill help the child transition, engage and participate in all typical summercamp activities such as hiking, arts and crafts, boating, ecological andforestry studies, orienteering, ropes and challenge courses, swimming and othernature-based outdoor activities. The child will need assistance in a number ofareas such as but not limited to changing clothes for swimming, transitioningto different camp activities, and socializing. This is a rewarding position anda chance to make a difference in life of a camper.

Minimum of a High School Diploma isrequired, Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Person must haveexperience working with children with special needs. Experience working withchildren on the Autism spectrum a plus. This position requires a verystructured and nurturing individual who is ableto respond toinappropriate behavior with great patience and understanding.

Salary:Starting rate of $75 - $85 per day

*International applicants’ salary is basedon sponsoring agencies pocket money agreement and/or experience. Stipend rangebetween $1200 - $2700 for the summer season. Room and board is also provided tointernational staff for the duration of the season.
