Job description

We are seeking reliable and motivated individuals who are enrolled in college for Fall 2025 to join our heavy-duty truck shop as entry-level summer helper. This role is perfect for those looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, mechanical environment. The summer helper will assist with basic truck and trailer maintenance tasks, including oil changes, service support, trailer repairs, and parts stocking. No prior experience is required, but a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist technicians with routine oil changes, lubrication, and basic vehicle maintenance tasks for heavy-duty trucks.
  • Provide support for trailer repair tasks, including fetching tools, holding parts, and cleaning work areas.
  • Receive, organize, and stock parts in the shop’s inventory, ensuring tools and materials are readily available for technicians.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized, including sweeping floors, disposing of waste, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Assist in cleaning, organizing, and maintaining tools and shop equipment.
  • Follow instructions from lead technicians and shop supervisors to support daily operations.
  • Other duties as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time college student for the Fall 2025 semester
  • Skills:
    • Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn
    • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
    • Comfortable working in a shop environment with exposure to grease, oil, and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test, post-offer pre-employment physical, and background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver’s license

AVAILABILITY:

  • Must be available to work full-time during the summer season
  • Monday – Friday, with occasional weekends

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a truck shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, grease, and heavy machinery.
  • Proper safety gear (e.g., gloves, safety glasses) will be provided.
  • Some tasks may require working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.

  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Bend at waist – occasional
  • Twist upper body – occasional
  • Stoop - occasional
  • Repetitive use of hands – frequent for clerical duties
  • Stand/walk – extended periods
  • Sit – occasional
  • Vision – near and far correctable; depth perception
  • Hearing – preferred for awareness of surrounding machinery, mobile equipment, emergencies

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, airborne particles (sawdust).
