Job description

The Seattle Human Services Department's mission is to connect people with resources and solutions during times of need so we can all learn, work, and take part in strong, healthy communities. Through the lens of racial equity, HSD supports programs, initiatives, and policies that address six key impact areas: preparing youth for success; supporting affordability and livability; addressing homelessness; promoting public health; responding to gender-based violence; and promoting healthy aging.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides nutritious food to youth ages 1-18 in low-income communities. The City of Seattle sponsors these federally funded meals and snacks to youth ages 1-18 at approximately 100 locations throughout Seattle, including playgrounds, community centers, library branches, summer schools, youth clubs, cultural organizations, housing communities. The program's goal is to connect youth with nutritious meals and meaningful activities when school is out.

This position involves food delivery duties for SFSP, a USDA-funded program that provides free meals to children and youth in low-income areas.

This is a high-energy summer job offering outdoor community engagement. Ideal candidates are punctual, detail-oriented, and available for the full summer without scheduled days off. The role requires driving a city-issued vehicle from the Seattle School District kitchen to designated sites across Seattle, following a specific route, and maintaining knowledge of Seattle’s geography and road safety. Interaction is primarily with school district staff and SFSP staff, with some contact with site personnel and youth.

This position is full-time, from approximately 6/11/2025 to 8/29/2025, with work hours from 8:00-4:30. It is not a remote position.

The first resume review will be on May 6th.

  1. Participate in training on SFSP rules and regulations before the program begins.
  2. Deliver program materials such as banners and sandwich boards to sites prior to meal service.
  3. Start daily at the Seattle School District Central Kitchen to pick up meals for delivery.
  4. Count and deliver the correct number of meals and snacks, maintaining accurate records.
  5. Complete daily breakfast and lunch deliveries by scheduled times.
  6. Deliver weekly snacks and shelf-stable meals.
  7. Respond promptly to work-provided calls from site and City staff.
  8. Make urgent or special deliveries outside pre-assigned routes.
  9. Assist with picking up site paperwork and delivering it to the OST Coordinator as needed.
  10. Pick up daily route paperwork from SFSP office and deliver to the Central Kitchen; assist with route sheets and receipts.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in delivery, warehousing, or general office work.
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Stand, walk, or bend for extended periods.
  • Lift packages up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Work in various weather conditions.
  • Drive for long periods using a City vehicle.

License, Certification, and Other Requirements:

  • Current Washington driver’s license or equivalent mobility.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Record-keeping experience.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.

Your application will not be reviewed if these items are missing or incomplete.
