Job description

The Seattle Human Services Department's mission is to connect people with resources and solutions during times of need so we can all learn, work, and take part in strong, healthy communities. Through the lens of racial equity, HSD supports programs, initiatives, and policies that address six key impact areas: preparing youth for success; supporting affordability and livability; addressing homelessness; promoting public health; responding to gender-based violence; and promoting healthy aging.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides nutritious food to youth ages 1-18 in low-income communities. The City of Seattle sponsors these federally funded meals and snacks to youth ages 1-18 at approximately 100 locations throughout Seattle, including playgrounds, community centers, library branches, summer schools, youth clubs, cultural organizations, housing communities. Simply stated, the Summer Food Service Program’s goal is to connect youth with nutritious meals and meaningful academic/cultural activities when school is out.

This position performs food delivery duties for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). SFSP is a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) funded program that provides free meals to children and youth, 0-18 years of age, in low-income areas.

This job is a high-energy summer job that provides the opportunity to spend time outdoors and, in the community, while supporting a vital community resource. Ideal candidates are punctual, detail orienteered and are able to work the full summer without scheduled day off. The job requires the ability to drive a city-issued vehicle from the Seattle School District kitchen where our meals are made to designated sites throughout the City of Seattle. Drivers need to be able to pick up the correct number of meals that need to be delivered to each site, on a designated route. The work requires knowledge of the City of Seattle’s geography and roads and the ability to drive a motor vehicle safely on a strict time schedule. Personal contact is primarily with school district staff and staff of the Summer Food Service Program. Interaction with site personnel and youth is also necessary.

This position is a Summer Seasonal full-time opportunity with typical work hours from 8:00-4:30 and runs from approximately 6/11/2025 – 8/29/2025 and candidates must be available for this entire time period. Due to the nature of the work, this is not a remote position.

The first pull of resumes will be on May 6th.
  • Participate in training to learn the rules and regulations of the Summer Food Service Program prior to meal sites’ first day of operation
  • Deliver program materials such as banners and sandwich boards to sites before meal service begins.
  • Start work daily at the Seattle School District Central Kitchen (in SODO) to pick up meals to be delivered each day to various sites on a pre-assigned route.
  • Count out the correct number of meals and snacks to be and delivered to each site. Keep accurate records of meal numbers.
  • Daily delivery of breakfast and lunches to be completed by sites’ scheduled lunch service time
  • Weekly delivery of snacks and shelf stable meals
  • Answer work-provided telephone and promptly respond to site and City staff
  • Make special or urgent deliveries not on pre-assigned routes
  • May occasionally assist monitors with picking up site paperwork and delivering it to OST Coordinator as City offices
  • Pick up daily route paperwork from SFSP office at Seattle Municipal tower and deliver to Central Kitchen. May assist in preparing route sheets and site receipts.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.
