Job summary

MoDOT's Kansas City District Office seeks an equipment technician intern to perform entry-level skilled maintenance on light vehicles and heavy equipment under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities include basic repairs, inspections, engine/transmission work, safety inspections, and occasional welding. You will review maintenance records, diagnose issues with computerized data, and assist with parts and supplies as needed.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant 2-year/associate degree program full-time (12+ credits).
• At least 30 credits completed toward the current degree program with transcripted proof.
• Overall GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and perform basic repairs to automobiles, trucks, tractors, loaders and other heavy equipment.
• Inspect, service, repair and overhaul transmissions, engines, clutches, drivelines and more; tune motors with testing equipment; handle air compressors and hydraulic tools.
• Inspect and repair automotive components like alternators, starters and distributors.
• Complete mandated fleet inspections and ensure OSHA safety standards are met.
• May weld, modify equipment and fabricate parts.
• Review maintenance records and observe equipment operation to correct operator error.
• Gather diagnostic data to assess repair needs and requisition shop supplies.
• Install vehicle body components and accessories.
• Report out-of-service equipment and estimated service time for scheduling.
