Job summary

MoDOT in Springfield is seeking an equipment technician intern to perform entry-level skilled maintenance and repair of light vehicles and heavy equipment under moderate supervision.

The role involves basic repairs, inspections, and servicing of transmissions and engines, assembly work, and maintaining fleet records. You may also gain exposure to welding and fabrication while supporting safety standards and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant 2-year/associate's degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• 30 credit hours completed toward current degree program; transcripts required.
• GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and perform basic repairs to automobiles, trucks, tractors, loaders, motor graders and other heavy equipment.
• Inspect, service, repair, and overhaul transmissions, engines, clutches, drivetrains, differentials, and ignition systems; repair and install hydraulic controls; tune motors using standard testing equipment; dismantle, repair, and reassemble air compressors, hydraulic jacks, pumps, cylinders and related equipment.
• Inspect, repair, overhaul, and assemble automotive components such as alternators, distributors and starters.
• Complete mandated fleet inspections and ensure all equipment meets OSHA standards and all repairs and modifications are done in accordance with operational specifications and safety standards.
• May weld and modify equipment and fabricate parts.
• Review equipment maintenance records and observe employees in the operation of equipment to determine and correct operator error and ensure proper maintenance.
• Gather computerized diagnostic information to assess vehicle repair needs.
• Requisition and store shop supplies.
• Install vehicle body components, lights, light brackets, mirrors, decals, and other accessories.
• Report out-of-service equipment and estimated time needed for service in order to schedule future work.
• Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned.
