Job summary

Merck invites qualified students to participate in the Discovery Chemistry and Process Research internship program, a 10–12 week summer opportunity designed to tackle synthetic chemistry challenges in drug discovery. Interns join a collaborative team in state‑of‑the‑art laboratories across multiple sites and will contribute to ongoing projects while gaining exposure to cross‑functional teams.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a graduate student pursuing a master’s or Ph.D. in chemistry.
• Two years of studies toward a bachelor’s degree completed by June 2027.
• Available for full‑time 10–12 weeks from May–August 2027.
• Strong academic performance and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in organic synthesis laboratory on discovery projects for drug research.
• Advance chemical synthesis, reaction development, and enabling technologies.
• Maintain accurate electronic lab notebooks and present results in oral and written formats.
• Participate in department and project team meetings within multidisciplinary groups.
