Job summary

NiSource is seeking a Summer Design Engineering Intern for a 12-week program in Columbus, OH, starting May 2027. You will work under the guidance of engineering staff on projects to address facility needs, with opportunities to design, estimate, and manage projects related to electric and gas facilities.

Applicants must be ABET‑accredited engineering students, have completed at least one year, and be able to work 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an ABET accredited, four-year engineering program.
• Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate study.
• Ability to work 40 hrs/week during the internship.
• Proficient with PC applications; strong skills with AutoCAD and MS Excel & Access.
• Proven communication skills with internal and external customers.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineering staff on projects to meet facility needs.
• Create job order sketches using AutoCAD.
• Perform field measurements and collect data.
• Assemble data to create job order estimates.
• Learn project management for electric and gas facilities.
• Maintain safety consciousness in all tasks.
