Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Ability to work with and communicate with children and families of diverse cultural and socioeconomic groups.
- Ability to make independent and effective decisions.
- Experience supervising and working with children.
- Be a team player as well as able to work independently.
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
- Ability to communicate and work with groups of varying age and skill levels, and provide necessary instruction to children and information to families.
- Ability to observe and assess children's behavior, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Valid Driver's License and must meet the MVR driver's qualifications.
- Must pass The Salvation Army background checks.
- Willingness to support the philosophy, goals, objectives, and mission of The Salvation Army. Must become certified in CPR and First Aid training.
- Understanding that the provisions of Safe From Harm will apply upon employment, with training to be completed within the first week.
Position Summary
The Day Camp Director is a leadership role among the Summer Day Camp Staff responsible for all duties related to running the program.
This is a temporary, full-time position working forty (40) hours per week during the 12 weeks of Summer Day Camp, including pre- and post-program training and preparation.
Compensation ranges from $16.00 to $18.00/hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Engage community members to participate in programs and activities.
- Greet and meet the needs of youth and families involved in Community Center programs.
- Ensure children's safety by maintaining a secure environment.
- Support the Day Camp by enforcing policies on payment, safety, and behavior.
- Plan and implement daily programming activities with staff and volunteers.
- Oversee and schedule staff and volunteers.
- Track and report daily statistics.
- Collaborate with Corps Officers to provide spiritual and pastoral support, including VBS.
- Use program time for meaningful activities and conversations.
- Promote respect for individuality and differences.
- Model good behavior, including cleanliness, punctuality, sportsmanship, manners, and encouragement.
- Understand and independently run the Day Camp program.
- Coordinate movement, monitor group activities, and ensure safety.
- Open and close the program, including before and after care.
- Mediate disputes and manage discipline according to policy.
- Maintain daily and weekly schedules, including meals, trips, and pickups/drop-offs.
