Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Candidate will be a member of the Adventure Point Program Department. On site and virtual trainings will be provided for this position. Candidate will serve as Summer Day Camp Director including shared responsibility with Program Director for Camp Staff training, daily health and safety, and behavior Management. The Camp Director is responsible for Parent/Guardian communications, including health and safety, registration, and behavior management. Duties will include site and facility preparation and management, Basic Camp Fiscal planning, Assist with Licensing and Regulation requirements and compliance. This position is in effect Monday through Friday beginning June 9, 2025 with a required in-person training March 22-23, 2025. Day Camp will operate only 3 days, June 30 – July 2, 2025 due to holiday.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:

  1. Provide Direct Staff Support and Leadership, and assist with Staff Week Training and on site support to Summer Camp Counseling Staff.
  2. Provide daily support for all campers, including behavior management and mentoring to encourage inclusivity, participation, and overall engagement for each youth participant.
  3. Ability to support/assist in leading programs for youth when staff shortage and/or unplanned absence.
  4. Be first point of contact for Parent/Guardians during morning check-in, helping with camper arrivals and overall guest satisfaction for each family. This shared responsibility will include working with Program Directors, Camp Staff, and Adventure Point Staff.

OTHER RELATED RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Attend all Camp Staff Meetings – to be lead jointly with Program Director
  • Attend NCS Day Camp director training March 2025 at Camp Rotary in Clare, MI (Council pays travel, accommodations and training fees)
  • Participate in day camp training, as needed for assigned responsibilities (Provided by Adventure Point during working hours, on site)
  • Other duties as assigned specific to this position

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred/Not Required: Four-year degree from accredited university, or equivalent
  • People-oriented, having the ability to work well with young people, parents, camp staff, volunteers, community and business leaders, and representatives of other organizations.
  • Able to work varied hours when necessary to achieve positive objectives.
  • Believe in the BSA and subscribe to its principles and standards.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Program materials, Computer, telephone, cell phone, visual aids and must have valid driver’s license/insurance to operate motor vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The worker is subject to environmental conditions - inside and outside.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 21 years of age; Must have a valid Driver’s license and personal automobile liability insurance.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests and visitors of Adventure Point.
  • Organizational skills and proven ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Fiscal management/budget development.
  • Ability to communicate plans effectively to staff and provide leadership to plan development.
  • Ability to contribute to development of youth programs
  • Knowledge of Safety protocols as provided through training at Adventure Point

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Outdoor Recreation / Youth Education interests, knowledge, or experience
  • Overall Organization, Communication Skills, Relationship building
  • PC / Microsoft Office experience helpful in daily job tasks
