Job summary

Appalachia Service Project Inc. in Johnson City, TN, seeks a Chaplain for the summer staff program. The Chaplain provides spiritual leadership, leads devotions, and supports volunteers and families through faith-based programming within ASP’s five-state region.

Ideal candidates have spiritual maturity and experience with worship, chaplaincy or social work, and a strong Christian commitment. This temporary role includes housing, meals, bi-weekly pay, and an ASP vehicle for work use.

Qualifications

• Spiritual maturity with a passion for growing personal faith.
• Desire to lead staff and volunteers in a Christian environment.
• Willingness to adhere to ASP policies including alcohol policy.
• Experience with leading worship, devotions and spiritual programming.
• Experience with chaplaincy or social work.
• Experience working with volunteers and youth groups.

Responsibilities

• Be a compassionate listener, caregiver and spiritual leader for staff, volunteers, and families.
• Lead and assist staff in devotions and evening programming at centers.
• Consult with the Director of Spiritual Programs on faith-related training.
• Meet with ASP volunteers and families who request a Chaplain.
• Discuss spiritual issues with staff; coordinate group discussions as needed.
• Refer staff/volunteers needing professional help to on-call counselors.
• Visit multiple summer centers and lead staff devotions.
• Initiate weekly contact with the Director of Spiritual Programming.
• Submit a post-summer evaluation with data/suggestions.
