GENERAL INTRODUCTION:
Each position employed with Camping and Guest Services helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:
To lead and supervise activities at the pool.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES ALL SPECIALISTS:
- Provide quality programming at the program area that reinforces the mission of CYO.
- Maintain cleanliness at program area including equipment maintenance.
- Enforce camp rules and emergency procedures as needed.
- Prevent injuries and accidents by monitoring staff and camper behavior at your program area.
- Report unusual camper behavior including homesickness, injuries/illness, inappropriate conversations and behavior issues to your director.
- Sleep in the cabin with campers and cover for evenings off at least one or more nights a week.
- Maintain first aid kit at program area and use it as needed.
- When not directly responsible for programming at their assigned program area, help out with lodge duties as assigned.
- Receive on the job training and orientation in program area. Orient general camp staff during training to program area expectations.
- Maintain accurate program records. Complete and submit incident reports and other records as required to track camper progress and ensure safety.
- Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program, including but not limited to evacuation routes, severe weather protocols, and first aid response.
- Follow and enforce all camp safety guidelines at all times. Ensure that campers are aware of and adhere to safety protocols and that their whereabouts are known throughout each session.
- Collaborate with camp staff in other areas as needed. Assist with camp-wide events, activities, and supervision to contribute to a positive and safe camp environment.
- Support camper development and goal achievement. Foster an environment that helps campers reach the developmental goals set by camp leadership, encouraging skill-building, teamwork, and self-expression.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES LIFEGUARD:
- Assess campers at the beginning of the session and assign swim level based on CYO criteria.
- Check pool daily for chemical levels and hazards.
- Be attentive to swimmers or boaters while they are in the water and near the water to ensure safety.
- Ensure all safety gear is within easy access of the water and is maintained.
- Conduct regular rescue drills to ensure that skills are kept up to date.
- Constantly monitor camper interactions and enforce safety rules.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the pool, pool house, or beach.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
- Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church.
- A good example for youth in appearance, attitudes, as well as in moral, ethical and spiritual behavior.
Education:
- HS Diploma or significant qualifying experience preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience working with children.
- Experience as a strong swimmer.
Other Elements:
- Commitment to the mission and values of CYO.
- Strong communication skills, verbal.
- Ability to pass provided CPR/First Aid Lifeguard training course.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and live on site in rustic facilities while programs are in session.
- 16 years of age preferred.
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
