Job summary

Green Chimneys in Hillside, NJ is seeking a Summer Camp Head Counselor for the May–Aug season. The Head Counselor will supervise program staff and serve as liaison between Camp Director and staff. This onsite role requires strong organization and the ability to coordinate daily activities and attendance.

Applicants should be 21+ with at least one year of camp experience and 1–2 years of leadership. Preference given to those with supervisory camp experience.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.
• At least one year of experience in a camp setting/working with children.
• One to two years of leadership experience.
• Previous camp experience in a supervisory role preferred.
• Must live onsite.
• Available mid May – August 28, 2027.
• Positions at Hillside and Clearpool locations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise program staff and act as liaison between the Camp Director and staff.
• Supervise daily attendance and group coordination.
• Recognize, respond to and log camper needs and injuries.
• Attend weekly meetings with supervisor and monitor counselors during activities.
• Assist with special activities, games, and emergency procedures.
• Plan section group activities and supervise early/late care.
• Evaluate section staff and assist in staff training.
• Plan staff activities.

Summer Camp Head Counselor

The main role of the Head Counselor will beto supervise program/staff and be the liaison between the Camp Director andcamp staff. In addition to the responsibilities of a Camp Counselor, the HeadCounselor will be responsible for the following: supervise daily attendance andgroup coordination, recognize, respond to and log individual and group needs,problems or injuries, inform Camp Supervisor of any camper/counselor problems,attend weekly scheduled meetings with supervisor, monitor counselors during activitytime and ensure they are participating where necessary. Head Counselors willalso assist counselors with special activities or games, instruct counselors inemergency procedures, fire drills etc., plan and implement section groupactivities, supervise early or late care as assigned, evaluate section staff,assist in the training of all staff, and plan staff activities. Must live onsite. Previous campexperience in a supervisory role is preferred.

Must be available mid May- August 28 th 2027.Must be 21 years of age. At least one year of experience in a campsetting/working with children is required, along with one to two years ofleadership experience in some capacity. Positions are available at Hillside andClearpool locations.
