Job Summary:
The Summer Camp Group Leader is responsible for the overall safety, development, management, organization, and planning of their group. This includes integrated educational projects, recreation, arts and crafts, and group-building activities.
Major Duties:
- Overall supervision and management of the identified group of participants.
- Engage participants in after-school activities and role model appropriate behavior.
- Ensure safety of participants at all times.
- Engage in outreach activities as needed to ensure attendance and participation.
- Provide support to activity instructors and other group leaders.
- Develop and facilitate a sequenced and thematic curriculum and other activities including arts & crafts that promote creativity, self-expression, mastery, emotional growth, and future/career exploration.
- Integrate lessons with literacy, history, and related academic subjects when applicable.
- Develop positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and school/center personnel.
- Attend all staff meetings and development training sessions, including Saturday and evening trainings.
- Monitor and maintain program rules and uphold the after-school model.
- Plan and prepare culminating events for participants to showcase their activities and learning.
- Assist with organizing parent and family engagement events.
- Engage with parents and guardians professionally as necessary.
- Discuss behavior issues and safety concerns with supervisor, completing necessary documentation.
- Act as a Mandated Reporter.
- Resolve conflicts within your group, seeking assistance when necessary.
- Foster a positive youth development environment focusing on strengths, belonging, independence, mastery, safety, and community.
- Supervise support staff assigned to your group, including interns and volunteers.
- Track and support participants' development, growth, and academic success.
- Ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of all participants.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are secure at the end of each day.
- Work during holidays and OST days (13-15 days).
- Maintain all required records, including attendance.
- Adhere strictly to policies and procedures.
- Participate in after-school events and trips.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School/GED Diploma and 2 years of related experience in youth group development activities.
- Experience in building camp culture through chants, team-building, and community activities is preferred.
- Talents or experience in arts, music, crafts, etc., are a plus.
- Commitment to working with youth from diverse backgrounds and providing high-quality services.
- Must work from a strength-based, youth and family development, trauma-informed perspective.
