Job description

Job Summary:

The Summer Camp Group Leader is responsible for the overall safety, development, management, organization, and planning of their group. This includes integrated educational projects, recreation, arts and crafts, and group-building activities.

Major Duties:
  1. Supervise and manage the identified group of participants.
  2. Engage participants in after-school activities and role model appropriate behavior.
  3. Ensure the safety of participants at all times.
  4. Engage in outreach activities as needed to promote attendance and participation.
  5. Support activity instructors and other group leaders.
  6. Develop and facilitate a sequenced, thematic curriculum and activities, including arts & crafts, promoting creativity, self-expression, mastery, emotional growth, and career exploration.
  7. Integrate lessons related to literacy, history, and other academic subjects when applicable.
  8. Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and school/center personnel.
  9. Attend staff meetings and development training sessions, including evenings and Saturdays.
  10. Monitor and uphold program rules and the after-school model.
  11. Plan and prepare culminating events to showcase participant activities and learning.
  12. Organize parent and family engagement events.
  13. Engage professionally with parents and guardians.
  14. Discuss behavior, safety concerns, and document necessary information with the supervisor.
  15. Act as a mandated reporter.
  16. Resolve conflicts within the group, seeking assistance when necessary.
  17. Foster a positive, strength-based youth development environment emphasizing belonging, independence, mastery, safety, and community.
  18. Supervise support staff assigned to the group.
  19. Track and support participants' development and academic success.
  20. Ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of all participants.
  21. Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are secured daily.
  22. Be available to work during holidays and OST days (13-15 days).
  23. Maintain all required records, including attendance.
  24. Adhere strictly to policies and procedures.
  25. Participate in after-school events and trips.
  26. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School/GED diploma and 2 years of related experience in youth group development activities.
  • Experience in building camp culture through chants, team-building, and community activities preferred.
  • Talents or experience in arts, music, crafts, etc., are a plus.
  • Commitment to working with youth from diverse backgrounds and providing high-quality services.
  • Dedication to a strength-based, youth and family development, trauma-informed approach.
