Job Summary:
The Summer Camp Group Leader is responsible for the overall safety, development, management, organization, and planning of their group. This includes integrated educational projects, recreation, arts and crafts, and group-building activities.
Major Duties:
- Supervise and manage the identified group of participants.
- Engage participants in after-school activities and role model appropriate behavior.
- Ensure the safety of participants at all times.
- Engage in outreach activities as needed to promote attendance and participation.
- Support activity instructors and other group leaders.
- Develop and facilitate a sequenced, thematic curriculum and activities, including arts & crafts, promoting creativity, self-expression, mastery, emotional growth, and career exploration.
- Integrate lessons related to literacy, history, and other academic subjects when applicable.
- Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and school/center personnel.
- Attend staff meetings and development training sessions, including evenings and Saturdays.
- Monitor and uphold program rules and the after-school model.
- Plan and prepare culminating events to showcase participant activities and learning.
- Organize parent and family engagement events.
- Engage professionally with parents and guardians.
- Discuss behavior, safety concerns, and document necessary information with the supervisor.
- Act as a mandated reporter.
- Resolve conflicts within the group, seeking assistance when necessary.
- Foster a positive, strength-based youth development environment emphasizing belonging, independence, mastery, safety, and community.
- Supervise support staff assigned to the group.
- Track and support participants' development and academic success.
- Ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of all participants.
- Inspect facilities, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are secured daily.
- Be available to work during holidays and OST days (13-15 days).
- Maintain all required records, including attendance.
- Adhere strictly to policies and procedures.
- Participate in after-school events and trips.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School/GED diploma and 2 years of related experience in youth group development activities.
- Experience in building camp culture through chants, team-building, and community activities preferred.
- Talents or experience in arts, music, crafts, etc., are a plus.
- Commitment to working with youth from diverse backgrounds and providing high-quality services.
- Dedication to a strength-based, youth and family development, trauma-informed approach.
