Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor (Education) 2025

Department: GG_Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs: Youth Services

Salary Range: $15.00 - $19.51 per hour

Closing Date: 05/05/2025

Position Details: Pay for this position is $15/hr. The City of Gainesville’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is seeking a creative, flexible individual with relevant education and experience to serve as a Summer Camp Counselor. Join us in fostering an equitable and sustainable community.

Job Description:

Under close supervision, this role involves recreational instruction and activity leadership in a temporary capacity, focusing on organizing and supervising recreational activities and ensuring safety and cleanliness.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Participating in mandatory orientation training.
  • Assisting in planning and overseeing recreational activities such as fitness, wellness, cultural arts, and field trips.
  • Supervising campers and maintaining activity area safety and cleanliness.
  • Adhering to safety policies and procedures.
  • Performing routine maintenance and custodial tasks in recreation facilities.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least sixteen years old before the start date or have graduated from high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • At least six months of volunteer, teaching, leadership, or instructing experience with children in organized settings, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to pass a Florida Department of Children and Families background check.
  • Reliable transportation to all program sites and availability to work between 6:30 am and 6:30 pm, June 3 through August 1.
Required Certifications:
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications or equivalent.
Additional Notes:
  • Outdoor work under varying climatic conditions.
  • Basic computer skills may be required.
  • Assessment(s) may be required.
  • An eligibility list may be established, and multiple positions filled.
