Summer Camp Counselor

Location:

Charleston Corps – Charleston, South Carolina

Position Type:

Seasonal

Pay Rate:

$11.25/hour

About This Opportunity:

Plans, implements, supervises members, and evaluates activities within a specific program area, supporting the Red Shield Center's outcomes of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character, and Citizenship. May oversee special programs and events such as Keystone, Youth of the Year, and Awards Programs, and participate in other unit activities as needed. In the absence of the Program Coordinator, may supervise other Youth Development Professionals to ensure program continuity. Builds and maintains professional relationships with members and their families to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

Essential Functions:

  1. Prepare Youth for Success (20%)
    • Foster an environment conducive to Youth Development Outcomes.
    • Encourage participation and assist with registration and orientation.
    • Provide guidance and serve as a role model.
  2. Program Development and Implementation (70%)
    • Implement and manage programs and activities effectively.
    • Oversee special programs like Youth of the Year or Youth of the Month.
    • Monitor, evaluate, and report on programs to ensure safety and quality.
    • Support outreach to increase participation.
  3. Facility & Equipment Management (10%)
    • Help maintain the facility and equipment.
    • Keep storage areas organized and report repairs or maintenance needs.
Qualifications:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred, with experience working with Children and Youth advantageous. Commitment to professional development and training.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to handle stressful situations, multitask, follow instructions, and communicate effectively in English. Must meet attendance requirements and be able to work sitting, standing, and walking as needed.

Working Conditions:

Indoor and outdoor recreational environments with potential weather-related discomforts and noise, dust, or dirt.
