Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor (seasonal)

Department: Education

Reports to: Program Manager

Dates: May 26th – July 30th

Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week

Job Summary:

The Fernbank Summer Camp Counselors lead all program instruction and supervision of campers, grades K-6. Counselors act as positive role models, encouraging them to grow and learn through indoor and outdoor educational activities. Counselors are enthusiastic and safety-conscious caregivers for each of their campers.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Leads crafts, games, and learning activities for groups of campers.
2. Provides behavioral supervision and correction to campers as needed, bringing in senior staff as needed.
3. Provides camper supervision during pre and/or aftercare.
4. Communicates daily with camp parents as needed.
5. Records and reports any incidents during the camp day.
6. Prepares, sets up, breaks down camp spaces for daily activities.
7. Sets up and breaks down camp spaces at the beginning and end of the season.
8. Maintains high level of cleanliness in camp spaces.
9. Attends required counselor training including CPR/AED/First Aid training.
10. Acts respectfully and responsibly and serves as a good role model to campers.
11. Additional duties as needed to ensure a smooth camp program.

Preferred Experience:

• Previous childcare and child education experience required.
• Background in STEAM field or education.
• Previous customer service experience.

Skills and Attributes:

• Must be available weekly between May 26th and July 30th for full 10 weeks.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must pass a background check before hire.
• Must enjoy working with children between the ages of 5 and 13.
