Job summary

Progressive AE in Grand Rapids, MI invites a Summer 2027 Structural Engineering Intern to join a multi‑disciplinary team. You’ll assist with structural analysis and design, developing documentation from concept to construction using Revit, AutoCAD, RAM and RISA, under experienced mentorship.

Candidates should be enrolled in an ABET‑accredited Civil Engineering program with at least two years completed by Summer 2027; Revit experience is preferred and strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering bachelor’s program with a focus on structures.
  • At least two years of undergrad studies completed by Summer 2027.
  • Previous Revit experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability and trends in design/construction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Project/SharePoint/Teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the project team to meet schedules and budgets.
  • Manage multiple projects in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Provide drafting services and final engineering documents to Progressive standards.
  • Assist in designing task and modeling assignments for various buildings.
  • Perform structural analysis per Progressive standards.
  • Collaborate with PMs, designers, and architects on changes to scope or budget.
  • Use Revit, AutoCAD, RAM and RISA for presentation and production.

The Progressive Companies Summer Internship Program is a paid, full-time experience designed to launch your career. You'll take part in hands‑on client projects, sharpen your problem‑solving and communication skills, and gain a front‑row seat to the world of architecture, design, engineering, and construction. Working alongside experienced mentors in a multi‑disciplinary firm setting, you'll learn the tools and methods that build a strong foundation for your future career. Along the way, you'll take part in project site visits, volunteer outings, networking opportunities, and education sessions – all designed to fuel your career and your curiosity.

As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will work collaboratively with project managers and structural engineers to perform structural analysis and design and modeling assignments for a variety of building types, sizes, and materials. Typical work includes preparing project work ranging from conceptual design to final construction documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, RISA, and RAM software.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the project team to help meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Manage multiple projects in a timely, accurate manner, monitoring progress against project scope and available resources.
  • Provide drafting services and final engineering documents consistent with Progressive’s standards.
  • Assist in designing task and modeling assignments for a variety of building types, sizes, and materials.
  • Perform structural analysis consistent with Progressive’s standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and architects to understand changes to project design, scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Use design and analysis software, including Revit, AutoCAD, RAM, and RISA, for presentation and production purposes.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in an EAC/ABET‑accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s degree program with a focus on structures (master’s degree enrollment preferred).
  • At least two years of undergraduate studies completed by Summer 2027.
  • Previous Revit experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability and other trends in the design/construction industry.
  • Strong math, analytical, design and problem‑solving skills, and ability to communicate well.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook required. Experience in Project, SharePoint, and Teams preferred
