Job summary

ATI Specialty Materials is offering a 2027 Operations Support Internship at our Baker's South location in Monroe, NC. You will support manufacturing operations through continuous improvement, process standardization, and efficiency-driven projects during a 10-week summer program.

As an intern, you'll gain hands-on experience with CI, 5S, data analysis, and cross-functional teamwork while being mentored by ATI professionals in your area of interest.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration - Operations/Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business Analytics, Project Management or related field.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
• Interest in continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing, operational efficiency, and process optimization.
• Ability to analyze information, identify issues, and develop practical solutions.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support Continuous Improvement (CI) projects that improve operational performance and processes.
• Participate in 5S initiatives focused on Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain.
• Evaluate current operational practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend alternative approaches to improve efficiency.
• Help standardize processes and reduce variation across shifts, work areas, or departments.
• Support the development and implementation of improvements to Mill Instructions and Operational Procedures.
• Assist with projects that improve the organization, efficiency, and effectiveness of manufacturing operations.
• Work with Operations and cross-functional teams to support problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

Program Duration: May-August 2027 | 10-Week Summer Internship

ATI is seeking an Operations Support Intern for our Summer 2027 Internship Program at our Baker's South location in Monroe, NC. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting manufacturing operations through continuous improvement, process standardization, and efficiency-focused projects.

What You’ll Do

Depending on your project assignment, you may:
