Job summary

Enlighten offers a full-time, paid summer internship in a fast-paced software engineering organization. You will receive regular guidance, learn quickly, and work in a hybrid setup with some on-site days in San Antonio, TX.

The ideal candidate is entering senior year or final semester of college after summer 2027, and will gain hands-on experience across backend/frontend development, UI, and modern tech stacks while developing professional skills.

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.
• Must be working toward a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with >60% of credits completed.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Python, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Knowledge of databases, SQL, RESTful services, and object oriented programming.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with 2 days/week in the San Antonio, TX office.
• Strong troubleshooting, attention to detail, and deadline orientation.

Responsibilities

• Code back-end services or front-end interfaces.
• Support development of modern and responsive UI for the web.
• Iterate rapidly with the development team.
• Integration across technologies, application development, UI development, and system testing.
• Experience with AI agent workflows and integrating tools into daily software engineering tasks.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Code back-end services or front-end interfaces.
• Support development of modern and responsive UI for the web.
• Iterating rapidly with our development team.
• Integration across technologies and applications, application development, user interface development, and system testing.
• Experience with Next-Gen Coding Agents: Practical history of integrating advanced AI agents, specifically Claude Code or Google's Antigravity / Gemini agentic workflows, into your daily software engineering routine.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Clearance Requirement - Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance, but not required on day one; U.S. Citizenship required.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and be working towards a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e. Computer Science), with more than 60% of the required credits completed.
• Must have programming experience with some of the following tools/technologies: Java, Kotlin, Python, Modern JavaScript Frameworks (e.g. Angular, Vue.js, React), JavaScript, Node, and/or CSS.
• Knowledge of databases, query processing, and SQL.
• Must have a strong working knowledge and experience in RESTful web services.
• Must have an inquisitive nature, responsiveness, and excellent attention to detail.
• Must also possess strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Experience developing software using Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Git, Nexus, Maven).
• Understanding of software design, best practices, and standards.
• Understanding of the agile software lifecycle.
• Has the ability to learn quickly and works well both independently as well as in a team setting.
• Must be able to work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 2 days per week at our San Antonio, TX office. However, flexibility is essential to accommodate any changes in the schedule.

Preferred Requirements

• Knowledge of cloud based technologies (AWS, Azure)
• Experience with the Linux operating system.
• A current security clearance is a plus.
