Job summary

Enlighten invites a summer internship for a full-time, paid program in a fast-paced software engineering environment. You will gain hands-on experience, with guidance and support, while learning quickly and applying skills in a hybrid setting at our Columbia, MD location.

The ideal candidate is entering their senior year or final semester in 2027, capable of coding back-end services and modern UI, and working with Next-Gen coding agents in daily development tasks.

Qualifications

• Must obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance (citizenship required).
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with >60% credits completed.
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, Python, modern JS frameworks (Angular, Vue.js, React) and CSS.
• Knowledge of databases, SQL, and RESTful web services.
• Strong problem-solving, quick learning, and ability to work in a hybrid team.

Responsibilities

• Code back-end services or front-end interfaces.
• Support development of modern and responsive UI for the web.
• Iterate rapidly with the development team.
• Integrate across technologies and applications, UI development, and system testing.
• Incorporate AI agents (Claude Code, Antigravity/Gemini workflows) into daily routines.

The ideal candidate will enter their senior year or final semester of college after the summer 2027 internship. Work will be performed in a hybrid environment with some on‑site work with our talented team.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Code back‑end services or front‑end interfaces.
• Support development of modern and responsive UI for the web.
• Iterating rapidly with our development team.
• Integration across technologies and applications, application development, user interface development, and system testing.
• Experience with Next‑Gen Coding Agents: Practical history of integrating advanced AI agents, specifically Claude Code or Google's Antigravity / Gemini agentic workflows, into your daily software engineering routine.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Clearance Requirement: Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance, but not required on day one; U.S. Citizenship required.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and be working towards a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e. Computer Science), with more than 60% of the required credits completed.
• Must have programming experience with some of the following tools/technologies: Java, Kotlin, Python, Modern JavaScript Frameworks (e.g. Angular, Vue.js, React), JavaScript, Node, and/or CSS.
• Knowledge of databases, query processing, and SQL.
• Must have a strong working knowledge and experience in RESTful web services.
• Must have an inquisitive nature, responsiveness, and excellent attention to detail.
• Must also possess strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Experience developing software using Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Git, Nexus, Maven).
• Understanding of software design, best practices, and standards.
• Understanding of the agile software lifecycle.
• Has the ability to learn quickly and works well both independently as well as in a team setting.
• Must be able to work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1‑2 days per week at our Columbia, MD office. Flexibility is essential to adapt to schedule changes as needed.

Preferred Requirements

• Knowledge of cloud based technologies (AWS, Azure)
• Experience with the Linux operating system.
• A current security clearance is a plus.
