Job summary

State Farm’s Life/Health Actuarial internship offers hands-on analysis and projects in a collaborative setting. You will contribute to pricing innovations, assess risk, and research industry trends while receiving extensive training and mentoring.

Eligibility requires full-time student status, a focus on actuarial science, and progress toward ASA/FSA designation. The program is hybrid with a Bloomington location and a stipend plus exam-based pay increases.

Qualifications

  • Majors in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Data Science, CS or related analytical fields.
  • GPA 3.25 minimum; 3.5 preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis in Excel, SQL, R, and/or Python.
  • Aspire to ASA/FSA designation and pass at least one actuarial exam.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support actuarial project work in Life/Health actuarial internship.
  • Analyze risk and pricing aspects, and develop methods for pricing.
  • Research industry trends and support senior actuaries.
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and leadership programs.

Responsibilities

A Day In The Life Of An Intern – Life/Health Actuarial

State Farm’s Life/Health Actuarial Department is a place where interns complete innovative and meaningful project work in a collaborative environment focused on developing technical and business skills - a perfect complement to the classroom. Interns provide analysis and solutions through:

  • Assessment of risk and financial needs for insurance products
  • Development of innovative methods and applications to enhance insurance product pricing
  • Research on company and emerging industry trends and hot topics
  • Development through extensive training programs, mentoring programs, and leadership opportunities as well as competitive compensation/benefits such as actuarial exam raises
Qualifications
We Are Looking for College Students With:
  • Majors in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Management or other analytical fields
  • 3.5 GPA preferred; 3.25 minimum required
  • Experience with data and statistical analysis in Excel, SQL, R, and/or Python
  • Intention to earn the ASA/FSA designation
  • Successful completion of at least one Society of Actuaries actuarial exam
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, leadership, and critical thinking skills

Internship Program Eligibility: To be eligible for the summer internship program, you must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate program throughout the duration of the internship.

What You Can Expect:
  • Summer Internship Dates: 6/2/2027 - 8/11/2027 (10 weeks)
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 38.75 hours per week
  • As the summer program has a short duration, it is expected that hired interns will be available throughout the entire summer internship with minimal to no disruptions in their work schedule.
  • Pay: $30/hour (+ an additional dollar per hour for each Actuarial exam passed).
  • In addition, interns selected for our summer internship program will be eligible for a $2,000 stipend!
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid - In this position, you should plan to spend time working in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. Interns are expected to be able to travel to and from your assigned office location as part of a hybrid work arrangement. Work arrangements could change over time based on business need. Selected interns must reside within the continental U.S. for the duration of the summer internship. Your leadership will share additional information regarding your department’s approach and what it means for you.
