Job summary

State Farm seeks current graduate students to join the Customer Insights & Measurement (CIM) Team as a Research Intern. The role focuses on both quantitative and qualitative methods to understand customer behavior and improve the insurance customer experience.

You will work with a team of researchers and analysts, develop surveys, analyze data, and share actionable insights with business partners. The internship offers a hybrid work environment with remote options in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD degree program in a research-related field.
  • Experience scoping, designing, and conducting quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with peer researchers to understand research needs and develop/execute research plans.
  • Execute primary quantitative or qualitative research to understand customer needs and improve experience.
  • Analyze data to explain customer behavior; translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Present complex analyses in simple terms and help stakeholders act on insights.

Responsibilities

Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for current Graduate students who are passionate about understanding how consumers think, feel and act in the insurance and financial services space. The ideal candidate would be a researcher who has experience with quantitative research, qualitative research, or both. This includes the ability to create surveys, analyze quantitative data, and/or employ qualitative methods such as conducting one-on-one interviews and summarizing overall themes. Being able to communicate well and visualize your findings to create impact are also key.

Our Team:

This position is to join the Customer Insights & Measurement (CIM) Team. The CIM team is a strong group of 30 researchers, statisticians, and analysts who focus on planning, executing, analyzing, and sharing research that provides actionable insights about the customer experience. Those insights are used by various business partners across the company so they can make data-driven decisions. Come join a research team that takes its work seriously but has fun along the way. As a Customer Experience Research Intern on the CIM Team, you will:

  • Work with peer researchers to understand research needs and develop/execute research efforts to support those needs.
  • Execute new primary quantitative or qualitative research to understand customer needs/expectations and improve the customer experience.
  • Quantitative researchers: Perform statistical analyses on various data sets to explain customer behavior.
  • Qualitative researchers: Utilize qualitative methods to understand “the why” behind customer behavior and help build compelling customer stories.
  • Communicate complex analyses and insights in a simple and actionable way to business partners; develop creative and immersive ways to help business partners take data from insights to action.
  • Collaborate within a fast-paced team, manage multiple projects simultaneously, think outside the box, and constantly focus on developing yourself and your skills.

Qualifications

Candidates should be current graduate students in one of the programs or related fields listed below:

  • MUST BE currently enrolled in aMaster's or PhD degree program in a research-related field like Psychology, Statistics, Data Science, Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research, Anthropology, Design Thinking, Economics, or Marketing.
  • Experience scoping, designing, and conducting quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Quantitative researchers: Experience manipulating and analyzing structured and unstructured data using tools such as R, SPSS, SAS, Python, or Qualtrics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Internship Information
  • Hub Locations: Bloomington, IL or Dunwoody, GA. (Candidates will have the option of working remotelyor in ahybrid work environment in the office in one of these two locations.)
  • Internship Dates: June 2, 2027 to August 11, 2027
  • Interview Timing: Competitive candidates will be invited to participate in online interviews during the Fall of 2026
  • Pay: Hourly rate: $32.50/hour based on a 38.75-hour work week
  • Stipend: Interns selected for this internship will be eligible for a $2000.00 stipend.
  • Internship Program Eligibility: To be eligible for the internship program, you must be a full-time student currently enrolled in a graduate program throughout the duration of the internship.
