Job summary

The Seattle Times offers a paid 10-week summer internship for outstanding students eager to build a journalism career. For 10 weeks, interns work closely with Pulitzer Prize-winning staff on real assignments as employees of our renowned metropolitan newspaper and website.

Interns will write across beats from Arts to Food and Outdoors, meet deadlines with editors, pitch stories, and develop multimedia elements while gaining newsroom experience at the Northwest’s leading daily news organization.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors (including graduating Seniors) attending a four-year college or university, or graduate students.
• Applicants must be journalism majors or have a demonstrated commitment to print or online journalism, possess social media skills, and be digitally astute.
• Internship experience at other news organizations is strongly preferred.
• Applicants should have strong reporting, writing and multimedia skills.
• Applicants should have interest in and some specialized knowledge of at least one subject area: arts & entertainment; travel & outdoors; food & drink; lifestyle and culture.

Job description

Every year, The Seattle Times offers a series of paid summer internships to outstanding students eager to build a career in journalism. For 10 weeks, our interns have the privilege to work closely with members of our Pulitzer Prize-winning staff members on a variety of real-world assignments as employees of our established, renowned metropolitan newspaper and website. Next summer, you could be paid to train in your chosen profession at the Northwest’s leading daily news media organization.

Responsibilities:

• Write interesting accurate, balanced and well-researched stories on a variety of beats under the Features umbrella, from the Arts to Food, Culture and Outdoors. Our interns act as regular staff members, filing a mix of breaking news stories alongside in-depth reported features.
• Meet deadlines and regularly communicate with your direct editor.
• Conceive and pitch original stories that appeal to our audience and work with your editor to develop them for publication.

Qualifications

Compensation

The pay for this position is $21.30 per hour.
