Job summary

The Seattle Times offers a paid summer internship for 10 weeks, inviting outstanding students to train in journalism alongside Pulitzer Prize-winning staff on real-world assignments at our metropolitan newspaper and website.

Interns copy edit stories for web and print, write headlines for multiple platforms, and help produce digital alerts and newsletters, collaborating across the newsroom to ensure accurate, ethical, inclusive journalism.

Qualifications

• Sophomores, juniors or seniors in a four-year college or university (including graduating seniors) or graduate students.
• Journalism majors or demonstrated commitment to print and online journalism; digitally astute.
• Internship experience at other news organizations is strongly preferred.
• Strong language skills and editing experience on multiple platforms.
• Basic grasp of AP style.
• Willingness to work on nights and weekends.
• finalists will be required to take a copy-editing test.

Job description

Every year, The Seattle Times offers a series of paid summer internships to outstanding students eager to build a career in journalism. For 10 weeks, our interns have the privilege to work closely with members of our Pulitzer Prize-winning staff members on a variety of real-world assignments as employees of our established, renowned metropolitan newspaper and website. Next summer, you could be paid to train in your chosen profession at the Northwest’s leading daily news media organization.

• Work collaboratively and efficiently with teams across the newsroom to maintain high-quality content that serves readers.
• Uphold standards of accuracy, ethics, fairness, taste and inclusivity.

Compensation

The pay for this position is $21.30 per hour.
